Civilian is the default role you get when you first login to the server, and also the default role you get if you switch off a job.
Civilians are able to partake in all sorts of criminal and illegal activities in order to get money and experience, allowing them to unlock other jobs and new purchasable items and perks.
They also are able to purchase properties, vehicles from 4 different dealerships, rent a car at the rental shop, buy drugs from drug dealers (NPCs and players), buy ATMs hacking devices at the hacker and buy illegal weapons and ammo at the illegal weapons dealership, making them the most developed and customisable role on the server.
Every day in-game, you can get an unemployment check of $12,000 if you have less than $500,000 in your bank account.
When a civilian hasn't done any reported illegal activities, they appear with a white blip on the map, a white username above their head and on the player list.
Once a crime has been committed, a civilian will get a “wanted level” ranked by stars depending on the severity of the crime they did.
Once they get a wanted level, Police officers are allowed to track and arrest them for their crimes, and in the case of if they committed a violent felony they are also allowed to use lethal force to take down the criminal.
Each wanted level comes with its own colour representation and reward for the cops that can catch them :
Most wanted criminals, are a special wanted level reached once having gone past the point of no return, for example: having killed either a police officer, stolen a military vehicle or killing another non-cop player while having 4★.
Once you reach most wanted level, you receive a bounty starting at $30,000 which will rise accordingly to the crimes you will do : every player on the server can hunt and kill you to get your bounty, with the exception of paramedics, and in the case of Police Officers they can try to arrest you alive to get a bigger reward.
The most wanted level not only gives you a pretty bright red colour for your nameplate and map blip, it also increases the range you need without cops around you to lose this wanted level. This wanted level also spawns AI cops around the location of your last crime if you didn't leave the area, and sometimes randomly on the map.
It also makes it impossible to bribe a police officer or turn yourself in at a Police Department.
This list may not contain all of the crimes or felony possible on CNRV.
There are multiple ways of losing your wanted levels :
“Vanishing” is the act of staying away from cops long enough to slowly lose your wanted level. The more stars you have, the longer it will take for them to vanish especially for the most wanted level.
To effectively vanish, you must have no police officers around a radius of ≈1km for 2★ to 4★ criminals, and ≈2km to 3km for 5★ most wanted criminals.
Once you start vanishing, your last obtained ★ will start blinking slowly, and will blink faster and faster the more you wait until you eventually lose it.
Once you get a wanted level, police officers can cuff and arrest you.
Once you are arrested, a police officer can either call a “quick arrest” which will call an AI cop car that will take and escort you to prison, or they can bring you to a police station themselves by putting you in the back of their duty vehicle.
Once arrested, you will be teleported to a random police department (not too far from where you are), and you will pay a “bail” fee depending on what wanted level you had.
If there are no nearby cops, you can use lock-picks (sold at convenience stores or by mechanic players) to free yourself from your cuffs.
To do this, either go to your inventory (using F2 or through the M menu) → tools → lock-picks then press Enter to use them. You can also use the /use lockpick command in chat.
If there is an officer nearby, you cannot use lock-picks as they are watching you.
If another criminal has some lock-picks, they can get close to you, press E to open the interaction menu, then press “use lock-pick" to free you, even if police officers are around and watching you (/use lockpick also works in this case).
Your friend will also get the ”harboring a criminal" felony and get a wanted level for doing this.
During the cuffing process, you can try to resist the arrest by clicking as fast as you can on left mouse click (fire button by default) : a successful attempt will trigger a shaking-off animation and will ragdoll the cuffing police officer, giving you a bit of time to get away or fight back, with the cost of receiving a higher wanted level.
You can only resist arrest once every ≈20s, and it also has a low chance of failing (the more you click, the less the chance of failing).
You can give cash to a police officer to lose your wanted level, at the cost of an XP loss for them : it is entirely up to the police officer to either accept or refuse the bribe offer depending on how the arrest went and how much money you're willing to give them. It's a pretty good strategy to use if you have some illegal items on you (ATMs devices, illegal ammo, etc) that you don't want to lose or if you don't want to go through the hassle of waiting for an arrest.
If a police officer refuses your bribe offer, you will get an “Attempted bribery” felony, which will give you one more wanted level until 4★ (cannot raise higher than 4★ with this felony) and you will be unable to send a bribe offer to that cop again until you're arrested.
The money you can give to a police officer depends on how high your wanted level is :
There are cases in which you cannot bribe officers :
If there are no police officers around a Police Department , you can turn yourself in by speaking to the Police NPC inside / in front of the Department. You will only have to pay a bail fee which depends on the wanted level you had before turning yourself in.
When you are killed by any means, you will lose your wanted level every time : you will have to pay for your medical fees and on top of this you will have to pay the “bail” fee, even if you respawn at the hospital (or mod shop for mechanics)
After creating your character when joining the server, there are multiple ways of customising the appearance of your playable character, as long as you have the money for it.
For every customisation item you buy, you can change them by accessing the wardrobe in the player menu. To do so, open the menu by pressing M then go to Wardrobe.
Once there you can browse every layer of clothing to make your changes, and if needed to unequip a layer of clothing press TAB while hovering over it.
Most clothing & accessories are available for everyone, although some of them are locked behind Silver and Gold memberships.
You can change your haircut and facial hair at the barber shop : once a haircut has been bought, you can change it anytime on the wardrobe, there is no need to go to a barber shop every time for it unless you want to buy a new one.
You can go to a Hospital to request a plastic surgery at the hospital NPC in order to change your appearance again just like when you created your character : you will need a “Plastic Surgery Token” in order to do this, which is available on the CNR shop or tradeable with other players (one untradeable token is given for free when you first join the server)
Most weapons can be bought at a gun store (Ammu-nation ) with their ammo, although some of them can be bought in some regular stores. Most of the weapons come with some additional customisations like accessories, special ammo or skins.
For more information about this, check this page : Weapons
Criminals can buy some illegal, unique weapons at the illegal gun store , at the risk of them being seized by police officers if they get arrested. There are also 2 unique and powerful kinds of special ammo sold there for some weapons :

Some items are essential to surviving fights : you can buy these items at multiples spots around the map, with different uses for each of them:
Civilian and all other related jobs can buy some properties, such as a warehouse to store items of all kinds, or garages to store personal vehicles after buying them.
